The start of something special?
Welcome to the freshest face on WCB, Mali. Like my friend Chris over at the Cameroon site, I’m whoring myself out to the country of Mali and this blog for the next little bit. With a tournament as great as the African Cup of Nations, and a team like the Eagles of Mali, it would be a shame for them not to have a blog following their progress through the 2008 ACN. And since there is not too much going on over at the Togo blog these days due to a disappointing showing in the Cup of Nations qualifying, I figured I would give my attention to Mali. After all, Mali is one of Togo’s West African rivals and managed to qualify for this years tournament in Ghana at the expense of my beloved Eperviers, so who better for me to root for and follow, right? Keep your friends close and your enemies closer I believe is the applicable adage. And besides, with player names like Boubacar and Mahamadou, how can you not like them? You must admit, African names roll off your tongue like no others.
There’s more to come soon but in the meantime, take a peak at the preview for Mali that Daryl whipped up a few days ago. It’ll be a great introduction to the Eagles of Mali if you are new to the team.
So, sit back, strap in, and enjoy the ride. Let’s see if Mali can pull a surprise in 2008.

They have the same saying? That is funny, I didn’t know that. I guess not a huge surprise though as there’s a lot of commonality in many of the West African countries…the French of course and the colours of red yellow and green being the choice colours for flags.
